Information About Schoology

If you haven’t had the opportunity to yet, now is a great time to sign up for Schoology!  Schoology is an important part of how we share information with you about what your child is learning at home.  We take great care in posting learning objectives, homework and resources that you and your child will find useful when away from the school setting.

Let’s get started!  Log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal at https://ps.vail.k12.az.us. Once there, you’ll see tabs at the top of the page with each child you have access to in the Vail School District.  Click on the name of one of your children.  On the side of the page, you’ll find a button that says, “Schoology.”  Click that button.  The right side of the web page will display instructions for creating your Schoology parent account.

What if I have more than one student to add?  Do I have to set up a different account for each student?

Once you set up your Schoology Account, it’s easy to add additional students.  You will need your parent access code for each child you wish to add.  You can find this access code by logging in to PowerSchool, clicking your child’s name at the top of the page, and clicking the Schoology button on the left side of the page.  The right side of the page will display instructions for creating your parent account, and also display the access code you will need to register your child.  The access code is located in red about half way down the page. You’ll need to copy this access code so you can use it in the next steps.

  • Log in to your Schoology account using your username or email address and password.

  • Click the arrow next to your name in the top-right corner.

  • Click the Add Child button.

  • Enter the Child Code for the child you’re adding (the one you copied from PowerSchool).

  • Click the Use Code button to complete.

What can Schoology do?

Schoology is a way for teachers to not only manage what you see, but also manage how our students interact with their courses.  For example, students and teachers can both work from within the program. If Mrs. Tesla creates a quiz in Schoology, her student “Jennifer” can log into Schoology and complete it.  As soon as the quiz is graded, Jennifer’s Mom or Dad could log in to their Schoology Parent account, view the work Jennifer completed, see feedback the teacher gave and also view the score Jennifer received on the assignment.

Parents and Guardians can receive daily or weekly e-mail notifications which contain summaries of their child’s activity in Schoology.  E-mails might include items their child has that are overdue, updates with courses assignments, and assignments or items that their child has turned in.

NOTE:  Built into Schoology is an online “Gradebook.”  As students complete tasks within Schoology, those grades are recorded in the Schoology Gradebook.  However, PowerSchool will continue to be our gradebook of record and will always contain the most current and up-to-date grades for ALL of your child’s assignments and classes.  When checking/verifying your child’s grades, always refer to PowerSchool.  https://ps.vail.k12.az.us
